Highly Recommended!!

My wife & I are had recently gone through a divorce and it caused a lot of anxiety for our seven year old son. Our therapist recommended your book to us, and it turned out to be a real treasure. Where has the author been hiding?
I've gotten all his works now and they are riveting, so insightful.
I hope he comes to NYC to lecture again soon.
I've bought this book for several friends who are parents and the message and techniques are very helpful.
It's the kind of book that is used as a future reference for parenting.

ALL PARENTS MUST READ THIS BOOK!!!

All Parents Must Read This Book!

"This book is wonderful! I did not truly understand the amazing benefits hypnosis and meditation could have on our children. We have three children between the ages of 7 and 13. The book helped our oldest overcome anxiety before taking her exams and improved her grades. We also used the program to help our two youngest boys, eat healthier and cut back on sweets. It worked wonders and I'm truly pleased. Thank you for a great book and useful tool.

Everyone has a story and people that play a part in that story. My story is about my childhood from hell, with a toxic, BPD mother. This is just a short “mental photo album” containing some mental snap shots of my life, and a key player in my story is my mother. It has been difficult piecing together these small still frames and pictures and seeing them in black and white (ie - in words), knowing that others will soon read them, as these are mostly things that one wouldn't exactly go around bragging about. However, I know that raising awareness for Borderline Personality Disorder, and letting others know that this is a hard illness to deal with, is an important thing to do.

No matter what, I love my mother because she is my mother, but that never made it less difficult, my having to live with her illness and the consequences of it. Her illness was an unnatural disaster wreaking havoc on an entire household, causing dysfunction and chaos, and leaving people hurt in the wake of her tirades. I was one of those people and, to this day, I deal with the repercussions of her illness and I believe I will always have some leftover “issues” due to this.

There are a lot of biographies and stories on the market, and I know that a lot of them sound the same. Mine may have some of the same characteristics, but I feel mine is different, for so many reasons. I know, too, that some people sit down and attempt to write their stories in a chronological fashion. I tried that, but found it extraordinarily difficult to do. When I sat down, I realized that when I think about my childhood, or my life in general, I don’t remember them on a timeline, so to speak. I remember them in pictures, snap shots, still frames, or even short little videos. So, as I write, I will jump from time to time, and from different points in my life to others, because that is how I remember the horror and the chaos of my childhood and early adult life. I feel that most people remember life this way, too.

So many common factors

I too felt like you were writing about my childhood. Especially the part about Christmas being traumatic. I saw the Christmas tree thrown into the yard more than once. I was estranged from my mother 10 years ago. I recently made contact with her when my younger sister made the decision to keep her children from my mother because of her manipulative behavior with them. She threatened suicide to people on fb who contacted me. (Of course now she claims they were being dramatic and she's unfriended them). As angry as I am at her I hoped that I could get her help and maybe my sister would give a little if my mother would take some responsibility. This backfired horribly. I made the mistake of sending her a message on Mother's Day and as you with bpd mothers know Mother's Day is very traumatic. She sent me messages accusing me of turning her grandchildren against her (my son and my two brothers also do not speak to her). Yesterday she sent me messages telling me she will take my sister to court for money she's owed unless she lets her see the kids. So today I was seeking out something to remind myself Its not my shortcomings that prevent us from having a relationship. So thank you for sharing this information.

I Could Totally Relate to Her Story!

Natalie Moon's childhood sounded so much like mine that it was therapeutic to read and realize I wasn't alone and I didn't imagine such behaviors. We both had mothers incapable of nurturing their own children because they were so absorbed in their own dramas and hurts, and growing up in a household with mothers with BPD is literally like walking on eggshells. I remember being slapped across the face until my nose bled, my mother flashing a male childhood friend in our living room, telling me I was pregnant after giving me a test when I had never had sex, and other horrors that stay in my head to this day. Now in my 40's, I realize I'm never going to have the mother-daughter relationship I've always wanted, and like the author writes, my mother would never admit to or apologize for any of these actions. Sometimes it is best to just let the dream go of having a close parental relationship and focus on making the necessary changes for your own children so it doesn't carry on.

Thank you for telling your story.

This book sent me through a myriad of emotions beginning with tears and ending with a sense of relief. Through the first five chapters, I thought you were writing about my mother. I laughed when you talked about the therapist asking you not to bring your mother back. I had the same experience. Today is Mother's Day and it's always a rough day for me because it has been three years since I talked to my mother and she lives 8 minutes away. I was feeling guilty, which I tend to do sometimes, but reading this book helped remind me that I'm doing the best thing for me. I'm ok with never talking to her again. Ironically, I'm a therapist who is working with a client with BPD and I think I will recommend this book to her because it has been very difficult to help her understand that her behavior negatively impacts her daughter. Thank you for sharing your story and please hang in there as you continue with your recovery.

I love Maingot, very rich textbook but easy to read at the same time, the Kindle version is fantastic.

Must for surgery residents!

I regularly read novels on kindle but this was the first time I bought a course book. I am reading it on my iPad mini and am really pleased with my purchase. It is so easy to highlight and bookmark and search in case on any query. I only wish prices were further marked down for ebooks so that college students could afford to buy more books!

great addition to a surgical library

Awesome book for general surgeons, surgery residents, and overzealous medical students wanting to go into surgery. Some of the older versions have very detailed info on forget surgery that we don't routinely perform anymore (ulcer surgery, duodenal surgery with tips on the difficult duodenum, etc)

FINALLY!!!! The book I've been searching for

I think I've bought every book available on kiln construction. They explain the methods of construction, how to lay bricks, show every imaginable kiln design, but nothing concrete. Finally Joe Finch has written THE book!! Complete plans for 3 specific kilns. A gas fired kiln, a combination gas/wood kiln and a wood fired kiln. Plans are specific and clear. Diagrams, materials list, tips and more. Joe is also quick to reply via email to any questions you might have. As soon as the snow melts I am finally going to build the gas/wood fired kiln!!!

Excellent guide

Having never built a kiln before this book is an invaluable source for how to construct a pottery kiln. The only reason I gave it four rather than five stars is that it is a British book and the metric system and refractories used are based on what is common in England and different to what is commonly available in America but the techniques and methods can be used for American products with success. I am very pleased with the content as there is no other book that is so clear in explaining step by step, brick by brick how to construct a kiln.

About the Author
Joel David Bakst is a teaching rabbi and scholar of Talmud, Kabbalah and Biblical Hebrew who, for 20 years while living in Jerusalem, studied and taught in Orthodox yeshivot. He has lectured and given workshops in Israel, the United States and India. He has written extensively about the confluence of Kabbalah and science with a special interest in the biblical and kabbalistic references to the pineal gland and the DMT model as it relates to higher consciousness and global evolution. He lives and teaches in Southern Colorado.

It was the only such convention Adamski attended.

Research reading can be tedious, this book made it a pleasure. George was an incredibly intelligent and articulate man, which features in the conciseness of his writing. Unencumbered by embellishment, he tells his story matter of factly and if one were to watch the Lawrence Welk Show interviews this supports his frugality for indulgence in verbosity.

About the Author
Dr. Lucy C. Morse I am an Associate Professor Emerita at the University of Central Florida (UCF). Before I retired from teaching, I was both the Coordinator for the Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology program, and Director of Engineering Technology at a Distance, a program focused on using advanced learning technologies to deliver engineering technology degrees to students on and off campus. Currently I teach engineering management as an adjunct for UCF. I was the first woman to obtain a doctorate in engineering at UCF, receiving a PhD from the Department of Industrial Engineering in 1987. In the early 90’s I served as a Program Manager at the National Science Foundation in the Engineering Directorate.

In 2011 I was delighted and excited to receive the Bernard Sarchet Award in recognition of Lifetime Achievement in Engineering Management Education at the annual ASEE conference. I am a Fellow in the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE), and a Fellow in the American Society for Engineering Management (ASEM), and have served as an examiner for the national Malcolm Baldrige Quality Award and the Florida Sterling Award. My experience in management has come through leadership roles in national and local volunteer organizations before and after I returned to engineering graduate school. I have lectured on engineering management, quality management and distance learning education throughout the continental U.S. as well as in Spain, Romania, Ukraine, Germany and Antarctica.

At present I serve on the Executive Committee of American Society for Engineering Management (ASEM). I have enjoyed working on the Managing Engineering and Technology text with Dan Babcock and am really excited to be starting this blog.

Daniel L. Babcock began his career as a chemical engineer, earning a BS at Penn State and an SM at MIT. He then served three years as a USAF officer in development testing, three years as a chemist and technical writer for a silicone chemical manufacturer, and three years abstracting progress in solid propellant rocket development on a U.S. government contract. Next, he spent seven years with North American Rockwell Corporation coordinating development and integration of solid and small liquid propellant rocket motors into the Apollo Command and Service Modules, engine with a leave to complete a Ph.D. in Systems Engineering Management at UCLA in 1970.

Dr. Babcock then accepted a position as Associate Professor (later Professor) of Engineering Management at the University of Missouri-Rolla (no Missouri University of Science and Technology). When assigned the introductory course in engineering management he found many fine textbooks in business management as well as some confined to specific technical areas (managing research, production, or projects), but none that included topics broadly needed in managing technology — dependent departments and companies. Dr. Babcock began to supplement the assigned management textbook with handouts for his students on areas of his experience, such as project management, quality assurance, and reliability engineering. He later outlined what he thought a more comprehensive text on Managing Engineering and Technology should include, and began to write one with encouragement from Prentice-Hall. With publication of the 1st (1991) and 2nd (1996) editions, however, Dr. Babcock retired from teaching. He has since been pleased to have Dr. Lucy Morse as his co-author to keep the book current and timely through its 3rd, 4th, and (now) 5th editions.

Book is easy to read and was perfect for my masters level class.

Decent text, but a bit expensive

I purchased this book because it is required for a graduate level Engineering Management course I am taking. In terms of overall quality, I would give it an above-average rating. It does a decent job summarizing some of the work various management science experts throughout history and also providing useful summarized statistics about which management methods work and which don't work in a modern environment. In terms of price, I think it's a little overpriced for the amount and depth of material that is presented. At its current price of roughly $130, it's a book that's only going to be purchased when it's required text for a college course like mine.

Too many editing mistakes in the text

This book is a text book for a graduate course I'm taking at Ohio University.

We are only 4 chapters into the book and I'm already finding a surprising number of typos and mistakes. The publisher really needs to do a much better job at editing their material before putting it out and charging $153.
