Flesh & Blood

This is a great sequel to In the Flesh. The characters are still getting to know each other and the relationship is evolving. It helped to make the Flesh character more understandable. I hate spoilers in reviews so I won't go into more detail. I just recommend that you read "In The Flesh" first and this one second. They are both great and the suspense is very believable.

Understanding Flesh - Amazing
By JayReads
What a great sequel to "In the Flesh". Flesh, Colby, and Gabe continue to grow and you discover what made Flesh the man he his and see him and the rest of the characters continue to unfold. Drew is introduced and I loved the way Ethan developed him. There was everything in this book, good characters, plot, and steamy sex scenes. I immediately went for the third book in the series to remain in the life of these guys.

"..Flesh and Blood is a well-written and engaging mystery I'd recommend to anyone who likes flawed characters and dark stories."

Things are going well for Detective Cristian Flesh. He's settling into life with his lover, lawyer Colby Maddox. Slowly but surely, he's beginning to overcome his past, with Colby's help. Then he's called to investigate a case involving a brutal attack on a powerful local man, and the prime suspect is a hustler. What might seem to be an open-and-shut case turns out to be anything but. Cristian's dragged into a maze of underage prostitution, cover-ups, and murder. The case hits way too close too home, dragging all Cristian's dark memories out into the present. Can he solve the crime and finally figure out a way to move on--before his past destroys the future he so desperately wants to have with Colby?

Flesh and Blood is another dark, gritty installment of Ethan Stone's Cristian Flesh series. Flesh is still the same sarcastic, determined, messed-up guy he was before, but now he's got Colby to ground him. He's breaking the rigid rules he created to keep his heart safe right and left, and to his surprise (and everyone else's), he's actually happy. Then this case drops into his lap and all hell breaks loose. Before it's over, the case will claim the lives of people Cristian cares about, turn his world completely upside down, and force him to face the demons of his past. Flesh and Blood isn't for the faint of heart, as Mr. Stone does not shy away from such issues as child abuse and underage prostitution. Cristian went through a lot in his childhood and young adulthood, as do other characters, and some of the depictions are heart-wrenching. Cristian has grown a lot as a character, and continues to do so. He's learning to deal with horrific incidents in healthier ways than his previous `run away or get angry' methods. I was glad he finally got to confront many of the people who had hurt him in the past, and make sure others weren't hurt in the same way. The mystery is good, the conflicts enthralling, and the secondary characters well-drawn (even the villains).

My problem with Flesh and Blood was the last segment of the book. The mystery was solved, Cristian faces his demons, and then something happens out of left field. I won't spoil it here, but I was upset and confused by the way the last segment of the book introduced a new problem, rushed through it, and then left it hanging in a totally unsatisfactory manner. I've since discovered that Mr. Stone was setting up for another, connected book. Even so, the last part of the book left me disappointed. Despite the last bit, Flesh and Blood is a well-written and engaging mystery I'd recommend to anyone who likes flawed characters and dark stories.
