Paul Tymann is Professor and Chair of the Computer Science Department at Rochester Institute of Technology. His research interests include bioinformatics, operating systems, networking, parallel computing, and object-oriented programming and design.

G. Michael Schneider is a Professor Emeritus of Mathematics and Computer Science at Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota and a Visiting Professor of Computer Science at Columbia University in New York. His interests include parallel processing, computer networks, and computer science education. He has written textbooks on software development, data structures, computer organization, and a breadth-first overview of computer science. Schneider was a member of the committee that authored the ACM/IEEE Computing Curriculum 2001. He has received Fulbright Grants to teach computer science curriculum development in Mauritius, Malaysia, Nepal and Mongolia.

Modern Software Development Usinjg Java by Tymann & Schneider

This is a down-to-earth and classic textbook on software development via Java as the programming language. Some of us may already had Java programming experience in undergraduate classes therefore this book can serve as the Java programming review. On the other hand we can use this book in conjunction with other already excellent textbooks like "Introduction to Programming in Java" by Robert Sedgewich & Kevin Wayne to begin learning Java in undergraduate classes or to brush up our software development and programming experience. The textbook contains lots of useful illustrations and explanations which do help out a lot while we are exploring the Java programming language and apply it in our software development, and therefore I can go ahead and give this textbook or reference book (depending on what we call it) a five star rating. Thank you.

Book for CS 2110 at UVa

My prof at UVa has us reading an online version of this book which is apparently available. I don't like reading from a computer any longer than I have to (irony) so I ordered it. It's cheaper than most textbooks and is definitely helping with the course. Although, pretty much anything in it can be found with a google search. It goes over more of the process of making code than coding itself. If you go to UVa and are a good student and are reading this, you probably don't need this book. If you sleep in class like I do and don't want to have to try to interpret slideshows, you need this book.

i was really impressed how fast I got this book. i was expecting to wait at least 5-10 days before i get the book. but the book was delivered on the 3rd day. I am enjoying practicing my programming.

This booklet is fan-freakin-tastic! As a male university student, these are things I wish I had read much, MUCH earlier.
Evert conveys his responses to popular relationship questions in a clear and concise manner, in accordance with Catholic teachings!
I recommend this to every high school aged teen, and to every male or female who wants to truly understand the root of common relationship issues that arise from our modern-day misunderstandings of a loving relationship. Cannot express in words how happily surprised I am, and I truly think this can save a whole lot of heart ache for people who seek a long-lasting, loving relationship.

I got this little book as a gift a long time and it is awesome! Now I buy it as gifts for my Religious Education students. Jason Evert is fantastic at explaining the Theology of the Body to teens and adults that don't know much about the Catholic Church and its teachings on sexuality.

Great little booklet.

Note: Those who reject this booklet seemingly reject what the Church teaches. This book has a NIHIL OBSTAT & an IMPRIMATUR, meaning that it is free of ANY doctrinal or moral error, thus persons should be skeptical of those who reject this booklet, not the author. Now, obviously much could be unpacked, which could likely appease the persons who take issue with the booklet, but that's not the point of the booklet; rather, it seems to be to introduce guys to the simple concepts of living as a Christian man, even if those concepts are actually difficult to live out in this generation, especially when young men and boys are often not mentored in the ways of manhood.

In short, the booklet is good. Get it. Support the truth and a good missionary message.

Useful information, but not user friendly

So, here's the issue with the Haynes manual. It's written for more than one model vehicle. While these vehicles (CRV and Civic) are similar enough to maintain, the narrative of repairs still tries to maintain a commonality between the vehicles. For those who have good general knowledge of cars, this is probably good enough. However, for a newbie like myself, I've had to supplement with the internet and friends who've done these things before.

Pros:
- Major Chapter Subjects are divided pretty well
- Good description of tools and hardware
- Good recommendations for maintenance schedule

Cons:
- Pages have a ton of information in small font, so it's easy to lose your place
- Skimming chapters is not simple - the flow of the chapters are not always coherent
- Images are poor quality and hard to make out if you're a beginner
- Hard to use the book while you're actually working on the car (not sure if there's a real solution to this, though)

This manual is much better for the more experienced DIYer. If you're a beginner look for the Honda Factory Service Manual instead. The CD version will be about twice as much as this manual, but well worth it.

why haven't you bought this yet?

every time i buy a car i buy a haynes manual for it. most people have no idea how easy some repairs are or scheduled maintenance is. haynes makes the basic things much easier and well the harder things will take some time. anyways these manuals are essential for d.i.y. people. if you have a si then of coarse there will be some things left out because it has a different engine. you can buy a si supplement manual from honda for that. oh yeah, i didn't have any printing issues with my book like the previous reviewer.

Not Terribly Satisfied

I've used Haynes' and Chilton's books for years, but this isn't their best effort. I have a few big complaints.

1) A very, very great deal of information is generic automotive data that's probably copied and pasted between all their books, and in a couple of instances, I found some of this generic information that wasn't particularly correct in the case of Civics.

2) The book spreads itself across multiple *generations* of Civics and Civic body styles AND tries to tackle CRVs at the same time. It's just spread too thin. It's sometimes difficult to hone in on the data that's appropriate for your vehicle. It doesn't seem to cover Si's at all.

3) I hate to disagree with most of the other reviews, but the book doesn't dig very deep. Granted, factory service manuals sometimes assume you have access to tools and equipment you either don't have or can't get at all, but I'd rather read, know, and understand than be told "this is over your head, take it to the dealer". Often times, specialized tools can be improvised, or Internet forum wisdom can help you work around your lack of factory test equipment.

Again, the book isn't terrible, I just expect considerable depth in a repair manual, and felt like I got something that was basically a little better than the owner's manual. If that's all you're after, perhaps this book is fine. If not, you have other affordable options.

Attractive but shallow

This book is cursed by its task: to be the text for a survey course. Each section covers far too much, far too fast. Students get exposed to a lot and learn next to nothing.

Great book about a wonderful living legend Wayne White. The guy is approachable, kind, funny, articulate and dedicated to making art that anyone can appreciate. It's really funny when art snobs try to pigeonhole Wayne...the critics almost always come around after they take their nose out of the air and look at the body of his work. An American Treasure.

Brilliant, hilarious

Wayne White's work is amazing in its ability to make you think while making you laugh, and sometimes making you cringe in discomfort of the shared feeling. He's a master of sublime wit. I wish I could line every all of my home with his work and walk the world through to appreciate his brilliance. Alas, the book will have to suffice.
