The book provides a background to the study, exploring the role of caste and its enduring influence on social relations in all aspects of life. The book also contains a critical account of the current experiences of Dalit students and faculty in one elite university setting – the University of Shah Jahan (pseudonym). Drawing on a set of in-depth semi-structured interviews, the empirical study that is at the centre of this book explores the perceptions of staff and students in relation to the Quota policy and their experiences of living, working and studying in this elite setting. The data chapters are organised in such a way as to first explore the faculty views. The experiences of students are then examined with a focus on the way in which their caste is still an everyday part of how they are sometimes ‘othered’. Also, a focus on female Dalit experiences attempts to capture the interconnecting aspects of abject discrimination in their university life. An amazing book -I read in 2 days...and I had to "do" things...."unputdownable"... written from the heart, full of laughs, tears,despair...a book documenting a nightmare come true and one woman's amazing battle to turn it into a miracle.
A "must buy" for anyone having a tough time, a truthful account...she does not have to lie...and written with the best will in the world....to cure paralysis...you need to buy it and read it....do not lend it....make all your friends buy their own copies.....this woman will change the face of paralysis as sure as any scientist................back her....buy it now......this is not the last we will hear from Claire Lomas...mark my words...xx

A great book, could not put it down for long as it was, witty, funny and of course very emotional.
I watched Claire when she was eventing, and saw her many times competing.
I knew most of the places she mentioned and now know her aunt Sue, who is just as nice.
She is a person who would never give up against all the odds. Taking on new challenges too.
The challenges she faced were imense. She is part of a great family and also
found happiness with a great caring guy and now a lovely little girl.
The book paints an excellant picture of all of this.

An excellent text

This textbook is an excellent introduction to cognitive neuroscience and human neuropsychology. It integrates what is known (2004) about cortical control of cognitive processes with the strategies the cortical hemispheres can utilize in problem solving. The text also deals, I think fairly, with current issues in cognitive science that have yet to be fully resolved.

The text assumes little prior knowledge, and is clearly written. Although the topics include neuroanatomical terms beyond the ordinary, they are almost always explained clearly so that students can follow the important issues. I have used it three times in courses that I have taught and would hope that the text will be updated to remain current so that I may do so again.

Necessary for school - but I did not like this book.

This is one of those text books you actually get angry at. "Intro" levels of such difficult subjects should not be so verbose.

Still, the book has a lot of information. It is organized nicely, has good graphics, and has a very, very good summary at the end of each chapter.

There are very interesting stories that go along with each chapter.
