I Like/Hate this book but more Hate it than Like it.
By Lillian Rose
Things I hate about this book. Lion marries Ariana when she is 14 when King Willian gives him her castle and land etc. He deposits her in an Abby while he goes off fighting for the King. What really, really bugs me is that this is an Historical book, okay she's 14 when they wed but in this time most women are wed at age 16 by the time he goes to get her 5 years later she's considered old at 19, that's the truth of the times. But at age 16 when it would be the time to go back to her he takes a mistress and keeps her for 3 years and only goes to get his wife when the King demands that he do so. In all the 5 years that she has been at the Abby he has not/or asked anyone to check up on her, he's happy living his life enjoying her money and his mistress. In the 5 years at the Abby she is constantly beaten and kept living life a serf. The only one who cares about her all that time is Lord Edric who she was betrothed to prior to the Norman rule, he tells her that her husband has had a mistress for 3 years, etc. When the king demands that he collect his wife, he tells his mistress that it won't effect them they will still be together. Lion arrives at the Abby as she is getting flogged, and see's the how she has lived for the last 5years and the only thing that he is worried about is that she is still innocent. He says that if she isn't he will send her back to the Abby for the rest of her life. Now if I was her I would truly hate this man with all my heart, and wish him dead, but no after he beds her it seems that the only thing she has against him is that he is a Norman and she a Saxon. I ask you what happened to the 5 years of agony, while he was living life to the full with his mistress. She half hartedly tries to poisen him, but stops in time, not me, I'd be holding the cup and making him drink it. He has to take her to London on the Kings instructions, his mistress throws herself into his arms where she see's this, she also overhears them make arrangements to meet later that night, after she hears them kissing. Now he's not sure wether he is going to keep his mistress or not. He finds that by showing attention to his mistress in public makes his wife jealous. What about the humiliation, she tells him about the humiliation but he doesn't seem to care. At dinner he is seated next to his mistress where she loudly implies that they slept together the night before (not that he did) and that they will again tonight, he says absolutly nothing - talk about humiliation. Ariana(wife) infers that she is a slut, Lion grabs his mistress and tells his wife to go to there chambers taking mistress side over wife - humiliation. He gets a message from his mistress that she needs to see him and he leaves his wife even though they are in the middle of making love to see Lady Zabrina(mistress). Lord Edric wants her to leave with him because he's tired of her being humiliated, he takes her to Lady Zabrina's chamber(room) only to show her a naked Lion and his naked mistress on the bed sleeping. His mistress doped him and he tells Ariana that and apparently they make love, she because she's going to leave him he just because he's a whore. Now I can't forgive him or like him, and I just can't understand how Ariana can sleep with him knowing he's just been with his mistress. He has never shown his wife respect and allways put his mistress first. The humiliation she suffers at his hands is unforgivable. Leaving her in that torture hole of an Abby, totally unforgivable. How can you love somene like that? What I really hate is that the mistress is rewarded in the end and lives HEA, I'm thinking where is the justice. You can make someones life a misery be a slut and get everything in the end, WTF. Too many authors like a HEA for everyone, but I say where is the justice. It seems like it's okay for Ariana to be tortured, humiliated, treated like crap and it's okay. Welcome to my home humiliate me in front of my own people, throw yourself at my husband it's okay just so long as in the end everyone is happy, hey I can take all that crap that you put me through and I'll still love you. The Hero never says sorry for anything he has done, never takes responsibility for putting her in the Abby, or anything he puts her through, absolutly nothing. Not a Hero in my books. Now the Mistress I think she should loose her money and lands and be forced to marry a really religious man to curb her whore ways, or become a serf, let the punishment fit the crime I say.
Sorry I really can't see much that I do like.

Connie Mason comes through again!
By GV
Another thoroughly entertaining Connie Mason book. Her romancenovels are almost always top notch. Lion and Ariana are strong andproud, and Connie Mason makes you really want to root for them to work out their problems and live happily ever after.
There are certain traits that are consistent with all Connie Mason books. She always writes great sex scenes (and plenty of them!), and raise your hand if you've ever read the phrase "steel encased in velvet" when describing the hero's ( ).
You won't be disappointed with this book - it's a keeper! END

This book sizzles!
By Michelle888
The year is 1067 and William the Conqueror is the new King of England. Along the borderlands of Northumbria, Ariana of Cragmere grieves at the news of her father and three brothers' death at the Battle of Hastings. At the age of fourteen and with merely a handful of knights left to protect her, she awaits her fate at the hands of the Norman invaders.
Lyon of Normandy is a staunch defender of the Norman King. A landless knight, he is a fierce and hardened warrior who bears the taint of his bastardy. Having saved William's life before, he finds himself rewarded greatly as the new Lord of Cragmere. But he also reluctantly finds himself with a new bride in the form of Lady Ariana.
When Lyon meets Ariana for the first time, he is surprised to find that his bride to be has not even ripened into womanhood. Yet he sees the promise of great beauty in the years to come and finds himself looking forward to that day. In the meantime, he leaves her under the care of the nuns at St. Claire Abbey hoping to tame her, which only added to Ariana's hate and fury.
Five years later and the King orders Lyon to finally take his place as Lord of Cragmere and fetch Ariana from the abbey. And so he goes and is surprised to find that his child bride's fiery disposition hasn't been subdued and her hate much worse. But was she a sight to behold! Lyon finds himself desiring her like he had no other woman. Ariana on the other hand is deeply unsettled by his effect on her but still vows to never surrender to this Norman knight.
THE LION'S BRIDE is a novel about two born enemies brought together by the manipulation of an ambitious king. It is a wonderfully told novel oozing with sensuality and passion. The way the story unfolds is such a good read. The way this fierce knight helplessly falls for the sharp-tongued vixen, loving her against all logic to the point that she becomes indispensable to him is so exciting to read. And when he sacrifice his pride and honor and denounce his king for her, it made my heart melt.
This is a sizzling story that is guaranteed to keep you glued. I look forward to reading more of Connie Mason's books.
